Father of Palestinian attacker on motive

(22 Jul 2017) The father of a 20-year-old Palestinian suspect on Saturday said that he thought heightened tensions over access to a holy site in Jerusalem were the motive behind the stabbing to death of three members of an Israeli family. It's claimed the suspect, identified as Omar al-Abed, 20, had sneaked over the fence of the Israeli settlement of Halamish in the West Bank late Friday and infiltrated the family's home, surprising them during a Sabbath dinner. The army says he killed a man and two of his children, while a woman was wounded. Al-Abed is hospitalised in Israel after being shot. Following the attack, IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and security forces surveyed the house of the suspect, searched for weapons and confiscated money allegedly used for terror purposes. The suspect's brother was arrested at this time. The violence came at the end of a day of deadly clashes over tensions at a major Jerusalem shrine that left three Palestinians dead.
